WASHINGTON--()--Edgeworth Economics is pleased to announce that Dr. Craig Malam has joined the firm as a Partner in San Francisco. An expert economist with 20 years of experience, Dr. Malam—who specializes in mergers, merger investigations, and related litigation in high-profile antitrust and competition matters—is uniquely well-positioned to enhance the firm’s leading antitrust and competition practice.

Dr. Malam has extensive experience consulting with clients on numerous early-stage merger reviews in industries that include consumer packaged goods, oil and gas, software and technology, automotive distribution, building products, cable television, financial markets, payment services, brick and mortar retail, and transportation, among others. He began his career with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), spending seven years as senior economic advisor, during which time he led the economic analyses of mergers, as well as alleged cartels, monopolization, price fixing, predatory pricing, and abuse of market power matters. Dr. Malam has also recently testified in US Federal Court where he provided expert economic opinion in a case alleging illegal monopolization.

“Craig’s deep experience in the antitrust and competition space in both the regulatory and private spheres—and especially his extensive merger review work—is an incredible asset to Edgeworth’s world-class practice in this area. His expertise, combined with his dedication to his clients, make him an ideal fit for the firm and our culture,” said Dr. John Johnson, CEO of Edgeworth Economics.

Dr. Malam commented, “It is so important for counsel and their clients to have incisive expert economist support through the complex challenges around mergers, acquisitions and joint ventures, and agency investigations. Edgeworth Economics provides me with the ability to be nimble and to put client service front and center, while offering the backing of a large and experienced team of high-quality economists. I’m excited to join this team and for what is to come.”

In addition to his work at the ACCC, Dr. Malam previously served as a senior-level expert economist at several economic consulting firms. He also taught courses on industrial organization at The Australian National University and the University of Melbourne.

Dr. Malam earned a PhD in Economics from the University of Queensland in Australia and an M.Ec from the Toulouse School of Economics. He currently serves as Vice Chair of the Mergers and Acquisitions Committee for the American Bar Association’s Section of Antitrust Law.
